A new architecture festival that was held in familiar places, ZigZagCity. For two weeks, a variety of activities took place in the city centre of Rotterdam during the first two weeks of the International Architecture Biennale Rotterdam 2012.
ZigZagCity is an alternative route through the city centre connecting a wide variety of venues including well-known squares, streets and buildings as well as hidden alleyways and courtyards. ZigZagCity invited visitors to explore both the beaten track as well as locations that usually remain unnoticed. Artists and archtitects transformed these locations into something else. A grassy square became a beatiful city garden and a anonymous square became a do-it-yourself pavilion.
This evaluation provides an overview of the successful first edition of ZigZagCity 2012.
Finally, we raise the question as to what the next ZigZagCity holds and invite you to offer a suggestion for the next venue.
